About Our Programs
At The Butterfly Affect, Inc., every program we design is built on our six core pillars:
Access, Preparation, Mentorship, Community, Empowerment, and Impact.
We believe that to close the aspiration-attainment gap for high school students in Newark and across North Jersey, we must fully integrate into their high school experience. That means providing workshops, community events, and hands-on opportunities that uplift, inform, and inspire, all at no cost to them or their families.
Through culturally grounded, student-centered programming, we help young people gain real insight into what college is, what career looks like after high school, and most importantly, how to get there.
Access
We create opportunities that break down systemic barriers by offering students college tours, networking events, and career exploration workshops they may not otherwise experience.
Preparation
We equip students with practical tools like time management strategies, application bootcamps, financial aid guidance, resume-building sessions, and real-talk seminars on navigating the college transition.
Mentorship
We connect students with mentors who reflect their dreams and backgrounds, pairing them with near-peer mentors, college students, alumni, and professionals who guide, inspire, and motivate.
Community
We design events that bring students, families, schools, and local leaders together, including community-wide workshops, family nights, and public celebrations that uplift student success.
Empowerment
We center student voice and leadership by offering student-led panels, storytelling workshops, and spaces where young people can advocate for themselves and shape their own futures.
Impact
We focus on creating programs that leave a lasting mark, building measurable outcomes, opening pathways to scholarships and internships, and ensuring that every small change we spark creates long-term impact.
